Fells Day Student Testimonials

On Wednesday, June 10, we had our first annual Fells Day.  It is going to be a great tradition for MHS.  Students enjoyed outdoor activities throughout the Fells in the morning, and then enjoyed a barbeque and concert in the afternoon.  Special shoutout to Mrs. Ivy Carnabucci, who worked so hard to plan the logistics of the event, and to Dr. John Perella, who began with a vision and it turned it into a reality.  It was a positive and productive day for everyone in the school community!

  • “The Fells Day was an awesome day that I will remember as one of the more engaging and exciting school days.”

    Zaryaab Shafiq, class of 2016

  • “One of the best days in high school took place yesterday, June 10.  We, as a student body, have finally been allowed to use the Middlesex Fells Reservation, a wonderful school and community resource.  How often do school headmasters sincerely as their students if they had fun?  It felt like the school administration and teachers were interested in what we wanted to do.”

    Connor Bryan, class of 2016

  • “I really liked Fells Day because it’s so much better to learn outside than inside.  It was interesting to learn the history of the Fells.  I would definitely do it again.”

    Daniella Ramirez, class of 2017

  • “I liked it because I got to talk to a lot of people who I don’t usually talk to during school.”

    Dana Williams, class of 2017

  • “I really enjoyed it.  I loved it.  I would like to thank Dr. Perella for giving us the idea to go outside and do activities that are fun.”

    Abdi Osman, class of 2017

  • “For me, this day was the beginning of a newfound culture, a culture characterized by exploration and genuine learning.  I can see the day evolving into something more and the entire school nurturing this culture.”

    Najma Jama, class of 2017

  • “The experience was truly unforgettable.”

    Ilina Zografova, class of 2017

  • “I think the Fells Day project was a huge success.  It got kids like me – who don’t really spend a lot of time in nature – to go out and interact with nature.  My group and I planted two trees and three shrubs.  It was really satisfying because now I consider them mine because I took part in giving them a new home.”

    Tenzin Phunkang, class of 2016

  • “It never crossed my mind that during a school day I would be going out into my community and not only learning about my surroundings on a different level, but embracing it as well.  The pride and excitement you feel when you do something positively influential in your community, something that can make a change, is overpowering.  Many people believe that if you want to see a change, you have to be the change, and I believe that on this Fells Day, all of Medford High was that change!”

    Rachel Garland, class of 2016
